A:Hello Grant,
Freewing and Motion RC no longer provide thrust figures as there are too many variables involved that can impact the results. Battery condition, air density, elevation, exhaust and intake design, and other variables will play a part in this. Due to customers not always achieving these specs we have determined it best not to provide any figures to avoid confusion and complaints. Each product we sell has been tested to perform solely in the products we sell and therefore we cannot determine how it will perform in any other product. We hope you understand our reasoning behind this and thank you for looking to MotionRC!

Q:I've got the 90mm f15 with the stock outrunner and 130a esc. Trying to decide which inrunner setup will be better between this edf and the 9 blade. Also curious how this will affect the cg of the f15. Any experience with this edf in the f15?

A:Personally, I would go with the inrunner motor and the 9-blade fan it's a good compromise between the jet sound, power, and flight time. With regard to the CG, it should be possible to keep it within the limits without adding extra weight just by moving the battery forwards, or rearwards.

I would like to place this EDF-/Motor-Kit in my 90mm Freewing F/A-18C Hornet (base grey). Will this work?

A:Hi...yes it will...your Hornet has the same edf and 130amp esc as the Venom.
I put this unit into my Venom....it's the exact same size and you simply unscrew the original unit and screw this one in it's place.
The power draw is exactly the same but I suspect the torque curve is steeper in the middle as it appears to produce more power in the mid throttle range but the same at full throttle.
It sounds superb...you will be very pleased with the unit.

Q:I have the 90mm f16 thunderbirds version. Do I need to upgrade from the 130amp ESC if I want to use this motor?

A:Freewing recommends the 130 amp ESC be used with this power system.

Q:Has anyone put this unit into a Freewing venom...mine has the 9 blade inrunner but is sounding a bit 'whiney' lately after 104 flights.....is there any difference in power, sound or flight times...or is my motor just getting a bit worn ? Many thanks. Kevin

A:Hi, if you're getting more whine from the EDF unit then it's time for you to balance the unit as part of normal maintenance after so many flights. The 9 blade inrunner you currently have installed is the best compromise between sound, thrust, and efficiency. This 12 blade unit will only provide marginal improvements in thrust/sound but you will have shorter flight times.

I used the stock ESC and 6S 5200mah lipos. It was a drop in fit in the Stinger, but the motor leads are a little further back in the fuse, and need the BenchCraft 100mm extensions to more easily reach the ESC. The overall quality of the EDF is excellent.

This...read moreAfter more than 100 flights with my venom, there was a distinct whine from the original 1900 kv motor ( kv means revs per minute per volt ) . This motor fits straight into the venom by way of six screws and is a really simple install as it is exactly the same size. Readings on the watt meter are the same as the 1900 kv motor I.e about 113 amps 2500 Watts on a fully charged battery and down to about 108 amps 2000 Watts at the end of the flight when the battery was down to about 22%....these are on the ground readings...not in the air readings ( which usually have a lower amp draw ) The motor is very quiet and the 12 blade fan makes a very realistic whoosh sound. The flight times are the same but the motor definitely appears to give more power in the middle throttle range but the same on full throttle....I am guessing that the thrust curve must be steeper in the mid throttle area. I am very happy with this replacement as the 1900kv was out of stock....I feel it makes the venom even more realistic.

I like the...read moreI purchased this item to replace the stock EDF that came with my F18 Blue Angel. That was the original one not the the newer inrunner type. I like the 12 blade because it sounds better than a 9 blade fan, less whine. Power and thrust seems to be about the same, but I've only flown it 3 times so I haven't had enough time to really get an accurate assessment of that. Overall this unit performs well and does what I expected.
